Owen's Starry Birthday

For Owen's second birthday party we were asked to do the decorations and the desserts.  After meeting the little guy, knowing one of his favorite shapes is a star, Owen's Starry Birthday took flight.  We started with the backdrop and created felt stars and fluffy white tissue clouds.  For our desserts we topped cupcakes with blue buttercream and fondant stars, dipped chocolate cake pops in white chocolate, cut pineapple into stars and made fruit skewers with blueberries. We had a great time at the party and so did the guests!

Thank You!

In honor of our incredible Administrative Assistant, Julie, we treated her to beautiful pink tulips and these seriously yummy Cookies & Cream Brownies for Administrative Professionals Week.  Julie is known to have a sweet tooth, so we knew she would love these brownies.

Thanks for all that you do Julie!

Martha's Meringues

We were inspired by the new Martha Stewart Living magazine this month and just had to recreate one of our favorite treats, Meringues.  The recipe is so simple and all you have to do is paint stripes in a pastry bag with food coloring.  They are so cute and we can't wait to implement them into one of our upcoming parties.

A Spring Cake

A few weekends ago, we made this delicious Lemon Poppy Seed Cake to celebrate the beginning of Spring and the gorgeous weather we have been having.  The cake was light and sweet, and the layers were filled with fresh lemon mousse.  The whole cake was frosted with a fluffy meringue frosting and topped with our favorite sprinkles.

Seemed like the perfect way to start the season to us!

Tissue Paper Balls

On most weekends, you can typically find us crafting away at Julie's home in Newton, MA.  A few weekends ago, we were crafting our famous tissue paper balls for a few of our upcoming parties (60th Birthday Celebration and Make Way for Declan) and decided to take some photos to show you you how to make these great party decorations.  These tissue paper balls are so easy to make and make any celebration fun.

Tissue Paper Balls

What you need
8 (or more) pieces of tissue paper
1 piece of floral wire (you can use a pipe cleaner too)
Scissors

The width of your tissue will give you a good estimate of the size of the tissue ball you will be making.

1. Make 1 inch wide accordion folds, creasing the tissue after each fold.

2. Fold a piece floral wire in half, and slip over center of folded tissue; twist. We made a small loop to help in the hanging process.

3. Cut the ends of the tissue into the shape of the petal you would like.  (We cut half rounds.)

4. Separate the layers, pulling away from center one at a time.

4.  Once completed, fluff and hang with wire.

Play Ball!

Buy me some peanuts and Cracker Jacks…….

Unfortunately, we do not have tickets to the Red Sox's home opener game on Friday, so we need to improvise and bring Fenway Park to us.  When we do go to games one of our must have snacks are Cracker Jacks.  So why not try to make this salty sweet treat at home.  Try out the super easy recipe and let us know what you think.

Fenway Cracker Jacks

4 cups freshly popped popcorn (lightly salted)
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup butter (1 stick)
1/2 cup light corn syrup
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon baking soda

Directions:
Put popcorn in a shallow roasting pan.  In heavy saucepan mix sugar, butter and corn syrup.  Stir over medium heat until boiling.  Continue boiling 5 minutes without stirring.  remove from heat; add vanilla and baking soda and stir.  Pour over popcorn; stir to coat well.  Bake in preheated 250 degree oven for 1 hour; stirring every 15 minutes.  Cool on parchment/waxed paper.  Break apart and store in a tightly covered container.  Note: if desired 1 cup of peanuts may be added to popcorn before adding caramel sauce.

Sugar Suggestion: You can find these small bottles of Coca Cola at our local grocery store.  We thought they were a great addition to our baseball theme snacks.

Wednesday is our friend Meghan's birthday and today we surprised her with some birthday cupcakes!  We made her Classic Yellow Cupcakes with Strawberry Buttercream, and topped them with our favorite sprinkles.  What girl wouldn't love these adorable, and tasty, cupcakes!

Happy Birthday Meghan!

Veggies for Dessert

We couldn't resist making these cute Easter cupcakes when we saw them on Frog Prince Paperie.  To make these delicious vegetables we used a small flower pot (that we found in the amazing dollar section at Target), Oreo's, marshmallows, orange sugar, and edible Easter grass.  First you will want to frost the cupcake in the flower pot.  Then dab the marshmallow with a little bit of water and then dip it in the orange sugar.  Using a toothpick, poke a hole in the top of the marshmallow and insert two or three pieces of the edible grass.  Place the carrots on top of the cupcake and add more dirt by using crushed Oreo's.  Vegetables for Dessert!

Sunday Morning Scones

Last Saturday we baked and boxed up our first order of baked goods as a hostess gift for one of our customers.  She was attending a dinner party and wanted to give the hostess something for breakfast the next morning.  We decided upon Blueberry Buttermilk and Cheddar Bacon & Scallion Scones to satisfy those with a sweet tooth and those who enjoy a savory treat.

Check out our newly added Services section for more information on ordering some of our baked goods.
