Go for the Gold!

To celebrate the beginning of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, we made a classic British drink with a summery twist.  A Pimm's Cup is a traditional British cocktail made with Pimm's No. 1 and the perfect treat to enjoy while watching your favorite Olympic events!

To add some flavors of summer, we made this recipe with a fresh watermelon syrup and garnished it with cucumber, mint, and raspberries.  We also added one of our gold cocktail stirrers to cheer our favorite Olympians all the way to the medal podium!

Mini Heart Cupcakes

A few weeks ago we made these mini cupcakes for a friend's Bridal Shower.  We made Vanilla Cupcakes and frosted them with Strawberry Buttercream, then topped them with white chocolate hearts.  We thought the decoration and frosting were perfect for celebrating an upcoming wedding!

How To: Ice Cream Cone Cake Pops!

Remember these Ice Cream Cone Cake Pops from our God Bless Declan post?

Well... we were invited to a 4th of July party and were told we could not come unless we arrived with these treats in hand.

So we figured this gave us the opportunity to give you a How To.
The great thing about these cake balls is that you can't mess them up!  They look even better if they are dripping down the sides like real ice cream.
Have fun and send us pictures of yours!

Ice Cream Cone Cake Pops
3 Bags of Melting Chocolates
1 Box of Joy Mini Ice Cream Cone 42 count
(We found these in the ice cream cone section of our local Stop & Shop. Wohoo! No special trips to the party store or internet seaches.)

After you mix the cake pop ingredients, scope the mixture with a small cookie scoop.
Do not roll these with your hands because they look more like ice cream when they are just scooped.

Place one ball on top of an ice cream cone and gently push the ball into place.
Once you have completed all the cones, then place them in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes.

In the meantime, start melting your chocolate.  Once the cones are cool start dipping them into the chocolate.  If the ball falls off the cone then just use a wooden skewer to pick it up and place it back on the cone.  You can always cover up any mistakes with sprinkles or more chocloate.

As soon as you have dipped the cone start decorating before the chocolate drys.  Add some sprinklers or even add another layer of chocolate to make it look like hot fudge.
Keep in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

Sugar Suggestions:  Always have a package of wooden skewers on hand in the kitchen.  These great sticks have helped us out of a lot of sticky situations.

Birthday Boy

This past week we celebrated the birthday of the muscle behind Sugar & Bows, Julie's husband Greg.  Greg has been one of our taste testers from the very beginning and never holds back any criticism. When he was asked what kind of cake he wanted for his birthday he responded without hesitation, FunFetti.  We had a lot of fun making this cake and can't wait to have another slice.
Happy Birthday Greg and thank you for all of your support!

Rooftop Cocktails

After having a few days off for the 4th of July, no one, including us, wanted to go back to work. So we decided to have cocktail hour with a few friends on Jaye's roof top over looking Boston.  In order to feel like we were on vacation we picked up a few of our favorite vacation wines and beers.  Duck Walk Sauvignon Blanc, Southampton Public House Abbot 12, and Offshore Amber Ale.   We paired this with Balsamic Watermelon Feta Basil Bites and cheese and crackers.

We watched the sunset and we had all forgotten about work!

Bachelorette Cookies

One of our best followers, who just happens to be Jaye's sister too, asked us to make these sugar cookies for a Bachelorette Party she was hosting.  Her best friend Meredith is getting married to her fiance Eric this August! She lives in the DC area, so we made this cookies, and shipped them off with lots of love.  She sent us these pictures of our cookies on display at the party, which we heard were a big hit.

God Bless Declan!

Our youngest and smallest client was christened this past Saturday and Sugar & Bows was unable to attend but, we were there in forms of cake pops, cookies, and our friend, Julie, who had graciously helped us for the day.  Being so close to the fourth of July we went with a God Bless America (Declan) theme.  For dessert we made a marble cake with red, white and blue buttercream frosting and topped off with a banner personalized for the occasion.  There was also, shortbread cookies dipped in chocolate and sprinkles, strawberry shortcake in mini mason jars, star shaped watermelon and blueberry fruit skewers, custom M&M favors, and ice cream cone cake pops.  The cake pops were a huge hit and we couldn't have made all of them without the help of our fellow blogger Kristin from Mom Wasn't Built in a Day.  We had these done in less than an hour and they were super easy to make.  A follow up post on how to make these is coming soon.

The decor consisted of paper lanterns and yarn balls hanging from the chandelier, handmade pinwheels in flower pots for centerpieces, a banner, tent cards, and the cake topper.  We had so much fun making all of these patriotic treats.

Hope this inspires your 4th of July BBQ's.
